First Choice Holidays

There are a lot of holiday and travel companies around that tell you they are the 'cheapest' or the 'best', well they can't all be telling the truth and in my experience a lot of them are very biased so I thought what I would do is come up with my own best holiday sites on the web so here are my best holiday websites, and after you've read this go visit some of them.

Cheap Cottage In Norfolk

Cheap Cottage is a great website if you are looking for a cottage in the UK it has a special search engine geared towards cottages so you just put in the area you want to go to such as The Lake District and then click the property type you want such as cottage, homestay, farm etc and it will find you the ones with the biggest discounts.

There are Cottages in Britain from Lands End to John O'Groats and wherever their is a good view and things to see and do you'll find a cottage for rent, you can get everything from luxury cottages to cheap cottages, cottages for familys or romantic cottages just for 2 even some with a hot tub, there are also home rentals where people rent out their houses and cottages whilst they are away plus working farms that let out cottages to familys and the children can stroke and play with the more docile animals.

The National Trust alone has a collection of over 400 holiday cottages across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, they even have Working Holidays which have been part of the National Trust for over 50 years. In that time people have helped to look after some of the UK's most important places.  The range of locations and experiences constantly changes, allowing participants to help care for some of the finest coast, countryside, historic houses in Britain.

It's not just about working in amazing places. It's also an opportunity to gain new skills and enjoy unique experiences, work with and learn from, the experts, plus make lifelong friends.

A lot of cottages are pet friendly which means you can take your dog or dogs with you on holiday, this will help you moneywise because you won't have to pay to have them looked after plus it will give them a great time as well running around new grassland and forests, Britain is a very historical place, almost anywhere you stay will have a church and lots will have listed buildings and when the weather is good the scenery is spectacular and easily as good as any country in the world.

Other advantages of renting a cottage are the travelling times are much shorter which is very important for children, on a short haul holiday you can say 'the flight is only 3 hours' but then you have to add on another hour getting from home to the airport then 2 hours check in time at the airport then in some places another hour waiting for your luggage in the baggage hall then travel from the airport to your hotel, lets call that another hour so in total the traveling time is more like 8 hours from leaving home to unpacking your cases.

Now if you just put the family into the car and head off you can be unpacking in a matter of just two or three hours depending on where you're going of course. As well as cottages for the Family and Pet friendly cottages don't forget their are also five star luxury cottages with a hot tub private pool and a roaring log fire so that you can get away from everything and everyone and just spend some time on your own, and if you do have a family then you won't be too far away if something unexpected happens and you have to dash home for a couple of hours to sort it out.

Infinity Pool Spain

Spain is the most popular overseas destination for British people and for good reason, you can almost guarantee the sunshine during the summer months, it's only two and a half hours flight away and because it's so close the airfares tend to be cheap, in fact if you pick the right resort and an all inclusive hotel the whole holiday can be had for a bargain price and that's where this website Spain All Inclusive excels because it has an excellent search engine where you just put in the area you want to go to and tick the all inclusive box and it will come up with the best prices by comparing all of the other top holiday and booking companies and picking the cheapest ones for you.

An all inclusive holiday in Spain is ideal for a family holiday because it makes budgeting so easy, when you want a drink or the kids want ice creams you just go and get them and you don't have to pay anything because you've already paid for it and as most hotels have buffett style meals you can eat and drink as much as you want, some hotels offer one a la carte meal per week but you are advised to book this as soon as you get to the hotel because they are on a first come first served basis and if you leave it a couple of days they will be fully booked up. The only time you have to pay for food and drink is if you are out for the day and pop into a bar or restaurant for a snack although most people time it so they are back in time for lunch or dinner.

The most popular areas in Spain tend to be the most touristy towns like Benidorm, Lloret De Mar, Fuengirola and Torremolinos this is because they tend to be quite cheap and offer lots of free entertainment and kids clubs. Benidorm overlooks two stunning beaches Poniente and Levante, which stretch for more than 4 miles around a spectacular bay. It has everything from sun beds to lifeguards, the sands shelve gently into the sea, making the beaches perfect for all the family. There are jet-skis, banana boats, donuts and kayaks, you can water-ski, wake-board or even go para-sailing. The best place for familys on the Costa Brava, is Lloret De Mar because it's a purpose built resort town and so has plenty of cheap hotels catering for a lot of British familys.

But Spain is not just about family holidays, some people want an adults only all inclusive hotel in a upmarket resort and Spain can offer that as well. Marbella is known as a glamorous resort town and Spain's answer to St Tropez. It's a favourite location for the rich and famous who like and can afford the lifestyle and with an all inclusive luxury hotel so can you. Puerto Banús is known as Costa del Sol's playground for the rich and wealthy who come here for the beaches, the beach clubs and the buzzing nightlife. The shops and restaurants mirror this expensive lifestyle, with lots of designer names on sale around the marina.

Puerto Banus has some great restaurants but be warned some of them are very expensive, there is  Route 66 Marbella is a favourite amongst celebs, it serves good quality classics such as steaks, hamburgers, fish and chips plus very nice pies. El Gaucho de Banús Situated on the marina in Puerto Banus, is an Argentinian grill specialising in steaks and burgers including chimichurri steak, empanadas and various other dishes. PiuCaro serves Modern Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, with a good selection of vegetarian dishes. it has Spectacular sunset views and is reasonably priced. Restaurante Levante is a beach restaurant which specialises in seafood and shellfish and authentic Spanish paella.

The Basque city of San Sebastián is a great place for a romantic upmarket holiday for two you could tour the Parte Vieja (the Old Town), spend a day surfing at the beach Playa de Gros, or shop all day in the Área Romántica. The main attraction is the city's architecture and ocean views. The city is also famous for its pintxos, the Basque take on tapas. Situated on the Bay of Biscay the Playa de la Concha is San Sebastian’s most popular beach and the largest for swimming and sunbathing. The beach looks out onto the breathtaking bay and is surrounded by rolling hills.

At the beach you can enjoy all the water activities you would expect such as, kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, para-sailing. The beach is as spectacular by night as it is by day, being illuminated by a crown of white lights, which makes a nighttime walk along the promenade, a great option for a stroll after dinner. Connected to Playa de la Concha is the Ondarreta, meaning 'little beach', which as the name suggests is a small beach and is a bit further along from Playa de la Concha, it's a lovely place to spend your days or evenings.

Crete is the largest Greek island of Greece, located in the southern side of the Aegean Sea. One of the most popular destinations of the country, holidays in Crete is the dream of a lifetime for millions of tourists. However, despite the tourist development in some places, Crete Greece also keeps intact its unique character. Its long history has left evident marks on the greek island: Minoan palaces, Venetian towns, Medieval Castles, Ottoman mosques and Byzantine monasteries constitute the most important sightseeing. And of course the most distinctive characteristic is the beaches.

Crete is a fantastic place for a holiday and because it's on the far side of the Med it means that spring arrives a month early and winter starts a month later, so you get two months more sunshine than places like Spain, This website has some great holiday deals for Crete because it uses the same search engine as the Spain All Inclusive site but is set to Crete, so in the search box just put Crete or if you prefer the region of Crete you want to go to, then tick the all inclusive box and let the search engine come up with the best deals on the web.

Crete is the largest island in Greece, and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean. You can admire the remnants of brilliant civilizations, explore award winning beaches, impressive mountains, deep valleys and steep gorges, Crete is split into 4 administrative regions or prefectures, running east to west, Lasithi (East Crete), Heraklion (Central Crete), Rethymnon (West Crete) and Chania (West Crete). The north coast of the Island is much more highly developed; all of the major towns and cities are on the north coast.

Lasithi is the least mountainous region of Crete, where the population lives in four centers: Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra, Sitia and Neapoli. This area has the mythical palm tree forest of Vaï, and the windmills on the Plateau of Lassithi which is the largest in Crete. The Minoan Civilization began in 2600 BC. and settlers who knew how to craft bronze arrived in Crete, reaching its peak around 1950 BC with the erection of the palaces in Knossos, Faistos, and Malia. In 1450 BC and again in 1400 BC the Minoan Civilization was devastated probably due to the eruption of the volcano of Thera and eventually led to its decline.  In the wake of the devastation the Dorians arrived and settled on the island. They were later followed by the Romans.

Heraklion The largest and most densely populate region on the island of Crete is Heraklion. in between two imposing mountain ranges Idi (Mt Psiloritis) to the west and Dikti (Lasithiotika mountains) to the east Heraklion has significant coastal settlements, valleys with olive groves and vineyards as well as the best organised tourist infrastructure in Crete. A unique combination of urban scenery and natural wealth makes the region of Heraklion an appealing all year round destination.

The Rethymnon region is Crete's smallest region it is known for marvellous beaches, Cretan lyre melodies, tsikoudia spirit, legendary caves, historic monasteries and monuments and luxurious holiday resorts. In the old town, the Venetian Harbor is full of fishing boats and lined with tavernas, with a Lighthouse that was built in the 1830s. There are two parts to Rethymno there is the big beach hotel strip that stretches from the east of Rethymno, and then there is the old town with its mix of architecture and history, cultural influences from Venetian to Ottoman empire. Turtles are regular visitors along the beaches of Rethymno and return between June and August to lay their eggs each year, this is something you must see if you're on holiday at that time.

The first thing anyone hears about Chania is the Venetian Harbour which is indeed a wonderful place to sit at one of the many cafes and tavernas and just wonder at the beautiful harbour, then go wandering around the Old Town’s maze-like alleys with it's Venetian mansions, fountains and the elaborate churches. Chania is also famous for it's food and wine, amongst the best are Tamam which is the most well known it's located in an old Turkish baths and the interior is fantastic it has a range of mezedes and the Iranian rice and meat pie are good, you can find it in the old harbour near the Jewish quarter.

Cheap Holiday Ideas
